The Golden Age of Charli

Title: The Golden Age of Charli
Author: Jena C. Henry
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Fiction
Format: Ebook/Paperback

Charlotte McAntic spent her thirties, forties, and even fifties in peace and harmony aligning her marriage, mortgage, careers, and children. As she stumbles into a new phase of life—also known as the Golden Years—Charli cannot help but wonder where the gold and her husband, Pud, are hiding. Pud is happily cruising down the retirement path that, for him, leads straight to the golf course. While Charli spends her days at home cleaning out closets and the basement, she yearns to gaze deeply into Pud's blue eyes and remember all the reasons why she fell in love with him thirty years ago. Unfortunately, the only thing Pud is eying is the next fairway. Knowing there is more to savor in retirement than silver-hair shampoos, senior discounts, and hernia surgery, Charli embarks on a quest to do whatever it takes to spend retirement in the embrace of the man she loves. But is it too late for happily ever after? In this humorous novel, a high-energy wife and her solid guy must learn to adjust to a new chapter in their lives and find their way back into each other's hearts after their retirement begins with a jolt.

THE INTERVIEW

Has someone been instrumental in inspiring you to write?

The love and desire to write was born in me. Looking back on my life, I would say that the experience of law school was instrumental in teaching and inspiring me to be a writer. In law school I learned to read, parse thoughts, analyze and listen to others. I learned to reflect and admire a well written and researched paper or presentation. I appreciated the majesty and inspiration of ideas.

Who is your favorite author? Why?

She may no longer be politically correct, but if you want a blockbuster page- turner that has it all- love, passion, history- you can’t beat Margaret Mitchell and her Gone with the Wind. I have read it several times now.  Many of these are indie or small publisher books. Indie books have heart and the author’s joy in writing shines through! I have read memoirs, romance, science fiction/fantasy, click lit and humor. Currently, I enjoy reading creative non-fiction, and I am immersed in Hamilton by Ron Chernow.

What was your first sale as an author?

I am self-publishing my first book and series, The Golden Age of Charli.

When in the day/night do you write? How long per day?

I spend two hours in the morning, afternoon and early evening on social media and managing my website and blog. I write and edit manuscripts in the morning and afternoon. I am a morning glory, not a night owl.

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Good question! My first thought was that nothing is hard- I love it all! But then I pondered some more and decided that the hardest part of writing is knowing when to stop. Is the story complete, is the ending powerful? Should I rewrite that tricky section once more? And editing- when does a writer ever feel comfortable and complete when editing a manuscript and saying “Ok- it’s perfect?”

Thank you for the interesting questions and for giving me the opportunity to connect with you readers.

Book Blast: Little Cotton Heart by Florentine Pfluger - Win a $25 Gift Card

Inside the Book:

Title: Little Cotton Heart
Author: Florentine Pfluger
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Poetry
Format: Ebook

Author Florentine Pfluger was mentally and spiritually trapped in a religious cult, along with her husband and children, for approximately ten years. During that time, she kept journals in which she wrote original poetry. In Little Cotton Heart, Pfluger shares the verses that resulted from that period, progressing from the realization of her family’s entrapment through the process of being set free and into the mental breakdown that followed. She experienced a psychological crash that took her on a long and painful journey into the causes of her collapse, and these poems depict her desperate search for healing in the aftermath of trauma. In the end, Pfluger also presents poetry written at the start of a new and much happier time. She hopes that this poetic journey from darkness and confusion into the light will help others in similar circumstances to know they are not alone. This collection of poetry outlines a journey from the trauma of a religious cult through the healing process that followed escape and into the wholeness that finally resulted.

Meet the Author:
