What inspired you to write your first book?
I’ve been writing my whole life but never really took it seriously until about ten years ago. I’m not sure why I decided to try and write a full novel. I think I just wanted to see if I could do it :) It took awhile…I wrote half of it in about a month and then real life got in the way and it sat for about 2 years before I finally decided to finish it. I couldn’t let the story go…so one day I sat down and started writing again. A month later I had my first finished book :)
What books have influenced your life the most?
Victoria Holt was my first literary love. She wrote gothic romances that I just fell in love with. Sweeping moors and spooky castles filled with damsels in distress and dashing gentleman. I’ve been stuck on historical romances ever since.
What are your current projects?
I’m actually working on two contemporary romances, hopefully for Entangled’s new Lovestruck line, and a new non-fiction. But there will be more historicals soon. Can’t stay away from them too long :)
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
I don’t think so. I really love Jessie and Tony and their story.
What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
I had some critique partners once really hate a book I was working on. Well, they didn’t hate it, but basically thought there was no plot (well, not one that was interesting anyway) and that the characters were flat. It was very hard to hear, but they were right. And because they were honest with me, I was able to go back and make the story much better.
What has been the best compliment?
I love to hear when someone has enjoyed one of my books. There’s really nothing better than someone saying they love your story. I’ve gotten some wonderful reviews over the years and it puts a perma-grin on my face for the rest of the day, every time :)
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
WRITE! No matter what else is going on in your life or publishing journey, find the time to write. Practice will never make perfect (because there is no such thing) but practice does make
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I’m pretty optimistic. I have my bad days, but for the most part I’m good at finding the silver lining of just about anything.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself?
I really need to work on my patience LOL
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I love to hear from people, so come find me on Facebook or Twitter, review my books, or drop me an email :) I’m also starting up a Street Team that I’d love to have people join.
